Visa Requirements

Visitors to Myanmar must have a valid passport and obtain a 28-Day Tourist Visa from a Myanmar embassy or diplomatic mission abroad. Two application forms and three passport-size photos will be needed. The fee is approximately US $20 in local currency. Travelers who plan to arrive via Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore or Hong Kong can sometimes obtain their tourist visas within one working day

Visa On Arrival Information

In accordance with the rules and regulations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Hotel and Tourism, an authorized travel and tours company can obtain the Visa On Arrival (VOA). Please contact our company for information requirements. It takes about two weeks to get the VOA. There must be a minimum of 2 persons traveling together to get the approval. After we get the pre-approval letter, we will email it to you in an attached file. Show this letter to your airline for to obtain a boarding pass. Rate for the Tourist Visa is US $20 per person to be paid directly to Yangon airport immigration, plus US $15 fees for Company Service and Documentation Fees.


Getting to Myanmar

Yangon International Airport and Mandalay International Airport are the main international airports in Myanmar.

By Air - Myanmar is served internationally by: Myanmar Airways International, Thai International Airways , Silkair , Malaysia Airlines , Austrian Airlines (Lauda), Air China , Biman Airways, Indian Airlines , Druk Air and Air Mandalay, Qatar Airlines, Bangkok Airlines.

Yangon has direct air-links with: Bangkok, Bhutan Brunei, Calcutta, Chiang Mai, Delhi, Dhaka, Hong Kong, Jakarta, Kuala Lumpur, Kunming, London, Osaka, Paro (Bhutan), Singapore, Taipei, and Vienna.


Customs

Customs Declaration forms are required on arrival for items such as all foreign currencies (above USD 2000), jewelry, electrical goods and cameras. Export of antiques and archaeologically valuable items is prohibited.
 
Airport Tax

Departure Tax of US $10 per person is payable on departure on international flights. There are no departure taxes for domestic flights.

Time
The Myanmar Standard Time is six and half-hours in advance of GMT.

Voltage
Myanmar has 220-230 Volts AC. 

Climate
Myanmar has a tropical climate with three distinct seasons although the effects of the rainy season vary across the country:

Rainy Season:  June to September
Cold Season:   October to February
Hot Season:    March to May 

The best time to visit Myanmar is from the end of October to beginning of May. During this time, a sweater is needed when traveling upcountry as nights can be cold. Yangon is very hot and humid during the hot and rainy season (March to September) and although Yangon and surrounding areas have a lot of rain during summer, upper Myanmar is rather dry the whole year round.

Credit Cards and Travelers Checks

Credit cards and Travelers Checks are not widely used in Myanmar except at international hotels and a few souvenir shops in Yangon and Mandalay. It is advisable to bring some cash with you for your expenditures. Small denomination notes are preferable.

Transportation

Myanmar Shalom provides air-conditioned coaches, minivans and cars for all tours and transfers inside the country. In remote areas, however, air-conditioned vehicles may not always be available and travelers should be advised that the quality of roads varies throughout Myanmar from reasonable to bad.

Communications

Telephone, fax and email are available in most hotels. However, international phone calls are expensive. Many internet cafés are available in Yangon and Mandalay. Please note that mobile phones brought into the country are not connectable to international networks such as GSM.
